Choose the right fit: Cave vs. Cave Extreme & Technical

When choosing the perfect Procean dry suit, not only the material is important, but the fit also plays a big role in your diving comfort. To help you make the right choice, we explain the main difference between our Cave models and the Extreme & Technical series below.

Cave Models Streamlined Slim Fit

Extreme & Technical models Optimal Space & Comfort

Divers looking for minimal water resistance and tight, sporty alignment.

Divers who want maximum flexibility in donning and extra room for thick undergarments.

The Fit

The Fit

Subtle slim fit, especially around the chest and shoulders. Fits more compactly to the body.

Noticeably wider cut around the upper body. Ideal for effortlessly varying with thicker undersuits.

The zipper

The zipper

Shorter, diagonally placed zipper at the front. Provides an extremely streamlined profile (ideal for tight spaces).

Longer zipper that continues over the shoulders. Provides a large opening and extremely easy entry and exit.

In short:

  • Choose Cave for a snug, streamlined slim fit with a shorter zipper setup.
  • Choose Extreme or Technical for a roomier fit, maximum flexibility and ease of putting on and taking off thanks to the longer zipper.

1. Polyester Trilaminate (Standard / Heavy Duty)

This material is used in the basic and all-round models such as the Sport, Technical, Extreme and Wade.

  • Composition: Outer layer of high-quality woven polyester, an intermediate layer of butyl rubber and a polyester inner layer.
  • Features: Polyester is very shape-retaining by itself and hardly absorbs moisture. This type of fabric offers an excellent balance between durability and price. The material is relatively stiff compared to light variants, but therefore offers a very high mechanical resistance to abrasion and leaks.
  • Reinforcements: In almost all these models (such as the Sport and Technical), the critical wear points at the knees are additionally protected with a layer of Cordura.

2. Ripstop / X-Light Trilaminate (Lightweight & Flexible)

This material can be found in the Technical Light series (black, blue, red, green, grey) and the Cave X-Light.

  • Composition: X-light ripstop nylon / butyl rubber / nylon light trilaminate.
  • Features: With a ripstop weave, a thicker reinforcement wire is woven into the fabric every few millimeters (often visible as a check pattern). In the unlikely event that a hole or tear appears in the outer fabric, the ripstop structure ensures that the tear does not tear out further.
  • Advantages: This material is significantly thinner, lighter and more flexible than the standard polyester trilaminate. This fabric therefore offers maximum freedom of movement. Due to its low weight, drysuits in this fabric are ideal for travel holidays.

3. Cordura Trilaminate (Maximum Abrasion Resistance)

This material forms the basis of the Cave Cordura model.

  • Composition: The outer layer of this trilaminate is fully woven from Cordura fibers, combined with a butyl rubber interlayer.
  • Features: Where in other suits Cordura is only sewn as a loose patch on the knees, here the entire suit is made of Cordura trilaminate. Cordura is known for its extreme resistance to abrasion, cracking, and rough surfaces.
  • Target group: This material is heavier and stiffer, but virtually indestructible. It is specifically designed for technical diving, wreck diving and cave diving where the diver may be in constant contact with sharp rock points or rusty metal.

4. Kevlar Trilaminate (Extreme Impact and Abrasion Protection)

This material is used for the top model on the page: the Cave Kevlar.

  • Composition: A specialized trilaminate in which the outer fabric is interwoven or heavily equipped with Kevlar fibers (aramid).
  • Features: Kevlar has an extremely high tensile strength and is cut and heat resistant. This type of material offers the highest protection possible with a dry suit. It can withstand the most extreme mechanical loads underwater.
  • Target group: Specially developed for the most demanding (cave) divers and professional divers who work in environments where material failure can be immediately life-threatening.
